     The first day of Fall 2010 semester is September 12th.

     School will be closed on November 28th (Thanksgiving weekend) and December 26th (Christmas weekend). 

     Fall'10 semester will end on December 19th.

Registration is free but mandatory. Seats are limited.

    Classes of Nonna Karakashyan         Chess-in-Russian       Main Hall, room 111

  • 10:00-10:30  - level 0  (new-to-chess);
  • 10:35-11:20  - level 2  (intermediate, participate in tournaments, have previous training over 2 semesters);
  • 11:35-12:20  - level 1  (beginners and students with previous training of 1-2 semesters at level 0);
  • 12:25- 1:10   - level 3  (intermediate-to-advanced, players with US Chess Federation rating, have previous training over 3 semesters);
  •   1:10- 1:55 -  level 1   (beginners and students with previous training of 1-2 semesters at level 0);
  •   2:00- 2:45 -  level 2    (intermediate, participate in tournaments, have previous training over 2 semesters)

  • 10:15-11:00  followed by 15-30 min of practice - level 4  (advanced; players with US Chess Federation rating, have previous training over 4-5 semesters);
  • 11:05-11:50  followed by 15-30 min of practice - level 0   (new-to-chess);
  • 12:00-12:45  followed by 15-30 min of practice - level 1   (beginners and students with previous training of 1-2 semesters at level 0);
  •  12:50- 1:35  followed by 15-30 min of practice - level 2-3  (intermediate, have previous training of 2-3 semesters);

 
 
 
 
 
 
 

  Chess classes in Middlesex County College campus (Edison, NJ) are scheduled on Sundays.
  Our classes are held for students of different age and level.
  The size of each class is usually 4-8 students.
  Here are some topics of our study programs for beginners and for intermediate / advanced classes.

  Chess-in-Russian classes are of various duration.

  Chess-in-English classes are of  45 min of chess theory +  15-30 min of practical games.

Tuition and Discounts (updated):

  • plan 1, "payment-per-class":
        
      if paid for each class separately, the tuition fee  is
                    $20.00 for each class
  •  plan 2, "semester payment"  includes 10% discount in tuition fee per class + 1 free class;
          tuition for 14 classes of Fall'2010 semester is
                    $234.00 = 13 classes * $18.00 + 1 free class * $0.00
  • plan 3, "partial semester payment":
          when joining classes after semester started and/or switching from plan 1:
    • before Nov 7, 2010:            includes both discounts, in tuition fee per class and 1 free class discount;
            tuition = [<number-of-remaining-classes-in-semester> - 1 ] * $18.00 + 1 free class * $0.00
    • on Nov 7, 2010 and after:    discount in tuition fee, without  free class discount:
            tuition = <number-of-remaining-classes-in-semester> * $18.00
     Additional  family discount   is available in all plans:   
  • 10%  for each sibling

     For plans 2 and 3:

  • if class can not be held in scheduled time (MCC campus unavailability, e.g. due to the weather; instructor's illness, etc.), free class will be provided next semester - no other carry-over payments;
  • no refund for missed class is available.

  • name and age of your child;

  • what level describes best his/her chess experience:

    • level 0 - your child does not know chess moves and needs to start from the very basics;

    • level 1 - your child is a beginner, knows how all chess pieces move and plays at home, with friends etc.;

    • level 2 - your child participates in chess tournaments;

    • level 3 - your child has US Chess Federation rating below 600

    • level 4 - your child has US Chess Federation rating above 600

Sunday chess classes are held in

       Middlesex County College, Edison Campus, Main Hall (parking lot 5),

       2600 Woodbridge Ave.,  Edison, NJ  08818

Going from Rt. 1 - South:    take exit Raritan Center, Rt. 514 E (just before exit to Highland Park). Drive less then 2 miles and see the college on your right. Turn right onto College Drive East to proceed to the main entrance. See below.

Going from Rt. 1 - North:  take Bonhamtown exit to Rt.531S. Proceed to traffic light, turn right onto 514W (Woodbridge Ave). proceed abou 2.5 miles and turn left onto College Drive East and proceed to the main entrance. See below.

From Middlesex County College main entrance:   continue straight by College Dr.East, go past a police check point on your right, bear left, continue by College Dr.East till Parking Lot 5. You will see Main Hall building. Once inside the building, you'll see the signs to find chess classes.
